Internet Sales. Clicking on this button will bring up the Internet Tax Rules screen:
The screen is segmented into two (2) separate areas.
The left side of the screen contains a listing of all the states of the US and the provinces of Canada.
The right side of the screen contains the previously established tax collecting Agencies and their corresponding tax percentages. The values displayed in this pane will change for each state. Therefore each state may have different agencies.
The listing of state and providence abbreviations contains four (4) columns:
The state or province's two (2) letter abbreviation
Total sales tax percentage for each state
A check box identifying whether or not to charge sales tax to orders placed via the Internet from customers in the selected state.
A check box identifying whether or not to charge sales tax on the shipping charges as well for online orders placed by customers from the selected state.
Tax percentages in the "Percent" column for states and provinces are total accumulations of the individual taxes being charged for each specific Agency, identified to the right side of the screen. To select the Agencies that apply to your Internet Sales, place a check mark in the box next to the corresponding agencies listed in the right side of the screen. To change the Agency Tax percentage, click on the "Edit Agency Percent" button. This displays a dialog box for you to enter the numeric tax percentage value to be collected for that Agency.
NOTE: Additional Agencies can be established and configured from the Tax Rules Builder section of Y.E.S.!™.
Select the states or provinces in which you are required to collect sales tax by checking the "Taxable" box in the row for that state or providence.
If shipping charges are taxable in that state or province, check the "Tax Shipping" box in the corresponding row.
Click on "Done" when you are finished configuring Internet Sales Tax Rules.
NOTE: If you are using Plug'n Pay as your secure transaction provider on your website, by default sales tax will be based on the total price of the order, including shipping charges. If you do not want to apply sales tax to shipping charges, you must request Plug'n Pay to set a special flag in your account to not collect tax on shipping fees. You may make this request via the online Plug'n Pay helpdesk. Plug'n Pay cannot distinguish between states that require sales tax to be collected on shipping chares and those that do not. This flag will thereafter affect ALL sales.
